The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) Division - I, formerly known as the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA), is responsible for conducting the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examinations in Assam and providing assurance for the quality of HSLC Education imparted in schools of Assam. ASSEB announced the detailed programme for its Assam HSLC Examination 2026 and the exams were held from February 10-27, 2026. The time allowed for the examination is 3 hours for certain papers & 2 hours for a few papers and there are two examination sessions i.e. Morning Session - 9 am to 12 noon and Afternoon Session - 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The SEBA HSLC Practical Examination 2026 was conducted in January 2026. Once the exams are over, the evaluation process is carried out in 45 evaluation zones across the state.

A total of 4,38,565 students have appeared for the Assam HSLC Exams 2026 at 1046 examination centres. Out of the total candidates, 1,90,243 were male candidates, whereas 2,48,322 were females. Last year, a total of 4,22,737 students appeared for the exams, including 1,87,752 boys and 2,34,985 girls and a total pass percentage of 63.98% was recorded. Objective of Establishment of the Board ASSEB erstwhile {SEBA}

The Assam Secondary Education Act, 1961 (Assam Act, XXV of 1961) was passed to provide for the establishment of a Board of Secondary Education (ASSEB) to regulate, supervise and develop Secondary Education in the State of Assam. The Act came into force with effect from 29th January, 1962 with the publication of Government of Assam, Education Department Notification no. 159/61/37 dated 29/1/1962. Thus the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (popularly known as ASSEB erstwhile {SEBA} came into existence on14 March, 1962. It started functioning with the conduct of 11 year H.S.S.L.C. Examination of 1962. Under the provisions of the Act the Govt. of Assam constituted the Board with Sri S.C. Rajkhowa, D.P.I., Assam as Chairman and Md. N. Islam, Inspector of Schools (Central Assam Circle) as Secretary.

 

Accomodation of the Board ASSEB erstwhile {SEBA}

The Board was first accommodated in the Conference Room of the office of D.P.I., Assam at Shillong. It was shifted to a rented house at Rehabari (Guwahati). The Board functioned here from 1/6/1962 to 26/2/1963. The Board office was then shifted to old University Campus of Gauhati University, Panbazar (the then New Hostel campus of Cotton College) where it functioned from 27/2/1963 to 15/01/1976. A part of the office functioned at Bhagawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan which housed the Chairman, the Education Officers and the Evaluation Unit during 1965-66. The Board office was shifted to the Assam type building constructed on its own premises at Bamunimaidan, Guwahati-21 on 16th January, 1976. On this occasion the opening ceremony was held with Sri H.N. Talukdar (Hon'ble Education Minister of Assam) in the chair and Sri Sarat Chandra Sinha, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam as chief-guest. The present site comprising 6 bighas of land was allotted by the Government of Assam to the Board in 1965. The then Education Minister, Sri D.K. Barooah allotted these 6 bighas to the Board on 99 years' lease. The lease was executed by the Board by paying Rs.1 (one) lakh as advance rent for the entire period. The present multi-storeyed building (plinth area 1575 sq. metres) constructed by the side of the Assam type building was completed in 1989.

 

Jurisdiction of the Board ASSEB erstwhile {SEBA}

The Jurisdiction of ASSEB erstwhile {SEBA} was the territory of the erstwhile State of Assam comprising the entire North East region of the country. With the creation of the Provinces/States Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh out of Assam at different times and with the establishment of their separate/own Boards of School Education the jurisdiction of SEBA got reduced. Presently the territory of the State of Assam is the Jurisdiction of the Board.

SEBA HSLC Exam Admit Cards 2026

ASSEB erstwhile {SEBA}  releases the Assam 10th admit card around 15-20 days before the commencement of exams. Students are required to collect the admit card from their respective school. One should check for any discrepancies. They must carry the Assam HSLC 2026 admit card on all exam days as otherwise they will not be allowed to write it. The admit card mentions the student's name, roll number, date-of-birth, along with the exam date, timings, and other exam instructions. Assam State School Education Board HSLC Examination, 2026 Notification

It is for information of all the Schools affiliated under Assam State School Education Board, Division-I, that the dates of the Form fill-up for appearing in the HSLC Examination, 2026 through Online Examination Portal (i.e., sebaregistration.org), has been scheduled as below:

PLEASE NOTE: 

i. User ID and Password, for the Online Examination Portal (i.e., sebaregistration.org) will be same as the Class IX Registration Portal. If User ID and Password is lost, then please contact the Member Secretary, Regional Office, ASSEB of your district concerned. 

ii. Payment can be made through SBI Online mode or SBI Challan, generated from the portal. For SBI Challan school can deposit it in any nearest SBI branch along with the necessary fees. 

iii. Helpline numbers are provided in the Online Examination Portal (sebaregistration.org). 

iv. In the form fill-up portal, 

1. Student's name will appear in the portal only if the marks of Unit Test I is available in the Marks Entry Portal against the student. 

2. School has to provide the Bank account details of each student while filling the form.

ASSEB Assam Class 10 Exam Pattern 2026

ASSEB erstwhile {SEBA} releases the Assam HSLC exam pattern 2026 mentioning the marking scheme, duration and the types of important questions asked in the exam. Students are advised to go through the SEBA HSLC exam pattern thoroughly to plan their preparations and ace the exams. Each student will have to appear for both - theoretical as well as practical exams. The duration of each exam is 3 hours (180 minutes) and the total marks for all the Assam HSLC exams together are 600.
